Presentation

The Bowen technique was developed by Tom Bowen (1916–1982), an Australian therapist from Geelong, Victoria. Without formal medical training, he developed a unique manual approach through clinical observation, treating up to 13,000 patients per year. His method was observed and formalized by Oswald Rentsch in the 1980s–1990s, who founded the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia and spread the technique worldwide.

Contraindications

  • Very few (very gentle technique)
  • Caution within 7 days of another manual therapy
  • Some protocols to avoid in first trimester pregnancy
