AcroYoga combines yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage into a unique relational practice. Practiced in pairs or trios, it develops trust, body communication and balance through supported acrobatic figures.

Overview

AcroYoga, cofounded by Jason Nemer and Jenny Sauer-Klein in California (2006), fuses yoga, acrobatics, and Thai massage. Practiced in pairs: a "base" (lying, supporting with feet/hands), a "flyer" (balancing on top), and a "spotter" (safety observer). It has two branches: solar (acrobatic, dynamic) and lunar (therapeutic Thai massage in the air).

  • 3 roles: Base (stability), Flyer (lightness, core), Spotter (safety)
  • Constant communication: verbal cues and body listening
  • Trust and surrender: physical trust transfers to relationships
  • Bone stacking: structural support through aligned bones

Session Structure

90-120 minutes: warm-up, calibration in pairs, solar practice (progressive acrobatic figures), lunar practice (aerial Thai massage), closing circle.

Contraindications

  • Wrist, shoulder or spinal injuries
  • Pregnancy
  • Severe cardiac problems
  • Vertigo and undiagnosed balance disorders
  • Acute disc herniation
  • Severe osteoporosis
