Behavioral Barometer - Three In One Concepts

A central tool of the Three In One Concepts system created by Gordon Stokes and Daniel Whiteside, the Behavioral Barometer is a visual map of emotional states used to identify discrepancies between conscious awareness and body response through muscle testing.

Behavioral Barometer - Three In One Concepts

Presentation

The Behavioral Barometer is one of the most iconic tools of the Three In One Concepts system, developed in the 1980s by Gordon Stokes and Daniel Whiteside. It is a sophisticated visual diagram that maps human emotional states on a graduated scale, ranging from the most contracted and negative emotions (hostility, guilt, apathy) to the most expansive and positive ones (enthusiasm, trust, willingness).

The uniqueness of this tool lies in its ability to reveal the gap between what a person consciously believes they feel and what their body actually expresses at the subconscious level. Through muscle testing, the kinesiologist can precisely identify the client's deep emotional state, often very different from what they verbalize. This discrepancy itself constitutes a major source of internal stress and behavioral blockages.

The name "Three In One" refers to the integration of three fundamental dimensions of human beings: the body (structural dimension), the mind (psychological dimension) and the spirit (spiritual dimension). The foundational premise is that every human issue involves these three levels simultaneously, and lasting resolution requires addressing them jointly.

Core Principles

Emotional duality: each negative emotion has a positive counterpart on the barometer. These pairs form two sides of the same energetic dynamic. The main pairs are: Antagonism/Enthusiasm, Anger/Acceptance, Resentment/Interest, Fear/Assurance, Grief/Contentment, Apathy/Willingness, Hostility/Feeling Safe and Guilt/Trust.

Muscle testing as revealer: the body does not lie. When muscle testing the client against each emotional pair on the barometer, the muscular response instantly reveals whether that emotion is "charged" or free.

Conscious/subconscious distinction: the barometer explicitly distinguishes two reading levels. The client may consciously identify with one emotional state while their body reveals a different subconscious state. It is precisely this discrepancy that maintains the cycle of suffering.

Age recession: once the blocked emotion is identified, muscle testing traces back to the exact age when the emotional pattern first became established.

  • Repetitive behavioral patterns and self-sabotage
  • Persistent relationship difficulties (couple, family, work)
  • Post-traumatic stress and embedded emotional memories
  • Self-confidence and self-esteem issues
  • Irrational fears, phobias and chronic anxiety
  • Unresolved grief and separation difficulties
  • Somatizations of emotional origin
  • Personal development and inner growth

Session Process

A session with the Behavioral Barometer typically lasts 60 to 90 minutes. It begins with an initial interview where the client presents their issue and current feelings. The kinesiologist then calibrates the muscle test response before presenting each emotional pair from the barometer diagram, testing the muscular response at both conscious and subconscious levels.

Once the emotional profile is established, age recession identifies the exact age when the blockage was first established. The correction phase uses ESR points: the client lightly places fingers on their frontal eminences while mentally reconnecting with the identified event. The session concludes with post-testing to verify emotional release and anchoring new emotional resources.

Variations and Sub-techniques

  • Simplified Behavioral Barometer: reduced version for quick sessions
  • Structure/Function Barometer: cross-referencing with muscle-meridian correspondences
  • Emotional chain work: exploring multiple recession ages linked to the same emotion
  • Couples Barometer: identifying crossed emotional projections in couple sessions
  • Learning Facilitation (One Brain): applying the barometer to learning blockages
  • Trait Wheel Integration: complementary tool linking facial structures to personality traits

Contraindications

  • Severe unstabilized psychiatric disorders
  • Recent major trauma requiring prior psychotherapeutic support
  • Severe dissociation states or suicidal crisis
  • Uncontrolled epilepsy
  • Inability to provide informed consent
  • Does not replace ongoing medical or psychiatric treatment
