Basti (Therapeutic Enema)
Considered half of all Ayurvedic medicine, Basti is a medicinal enema using herbal decoctions and oils to treat excess Vata dosha in the colon.

Basti is the third and most important Panchakarma procedure. Charaka himself states that 'Basti is half of the total treatment — even the complete treatment.' The colon is Vata dosha's main seat, and Basti is the most direct treatment for Vata imbalances.
Types of Basti
- Anuvasana Basti (oil): Medicinal oil enema. Nourishing and lubricating
- Niruha Basti (decoction): Herbal decoction enema. Purifying and cleansing
- Matra Basti: Daily micro oil enema (minimal dose). Very safe
