Crystal Singing Bowls
Sound therapy instruments made of pure quartz producing crystal-clear sounds of exceptional purity, tuned to specific frequencies to harmonize chakras and induce deep meditative states.
Presentation
Crystal singing bowls (or quartz crystal bowls) are modern sound therapy instruments that appeared in the 1980s. Made from purified silica sand (quartz SiO₂) melted at very high temperatures (approximately 4,000°C), they produce sounds of remarkable purity and power. Unlike Tibetan bowls that produce complex, harmonic-rich sounds, crystal bowls emit a very pure fundamental tone with more subtle harmonics.
Each bowl is tuned to a precise note of the chromatic scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B), traditionally corresponding to one of the seven main chakras.
Core Principles
Traditional note-chakra correspondence:
- C: Root chakra (Muladhara) — grounding
- D: Sacral chakra (Svadhisthana) — creativity
- E: Solar plexus chakra (Manipura) — personal power
- F: Heart chakra (Anahata) — love
- G: Throat chakra (Vishuddha) — expression
- A: Third eye chakra (Ajna) — intuition
- B: Crown chakra (Sahasrara) — spiritual connection

Session Overview
The receiver lies in a dedicated space, often with dim lighting and blankets for thermal comfort. The practitioner arranges crystal bowls in a circle around the receiver or in a line along the body. The session begins with silence, then the practitioner sounds the bowls following an intentional progression — often from root to crown chakra. The crystal bowl sound is extremely immersive. Individual sessions allow targeted work, while group 'sound baths' create a collective meditative experience.
Contraindications
- Same contraindications as Tibetan bowls
- Extreme auditory sensitivity (hyperacusis) — volume can be very high
- Never play a crystal bowl against someone's ear
- Breakage risk: do not expose to thermal or mechanical shocks
