Presentation

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is a specialty dedicated to rehabilitation of the perineum and pelvic floor. It is mainly prescribed postpartum (reimbursed in France from the 2nd postnatal consultation), in preparation for pelvic surgery and for urological and gynecological functional disorders. The physiotherapist uses internal and external manual techniques, biofeedback and electrostimulation.

Main Indications

  • Stress urinary incontinence (cough, laughter, sport)
  • Urgency urinary incontinence
  • Prolapse (organ descent)
  • Postpartum (systematic)
  • Preparation for pelvic surgery
  • Dyspareunia and vulvodynia
  • Descending perineum syndrome
  • Anorectal constipation

Contraindications

  • Acute vaginal or urinary infections
  • Pregnancy (internal route)
  • Recent surgery < 6 weeks
  • Pelvic tumors
