Presentation
EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), commonly called 'tapping,' is a psycho-corporal method created by Gary Craig (born 1940) in the 1990s. EFT combines meridian acupuncture point stimulation through tapping with verbalization and acceptance of negative emotions.
Founder: Gary Craig (born 1940)
Core Principles
Basic EFT protocol:
- 1. Problem identification: Precisely name the emotion or memory
- 2. SUD evaluation: Subjective distress scale 0 to 10
- 3. Setup phrase: 'Even though I have [this problem], I deeply and completely accept myself'
- 4. Tapping sequence: Tapping 8 to 9 meridian points while repeating a reminder phrase
- 5. Re-evaluation: New SUD score to measure reduction
