Ritucharya is the Ayurvedic art of seasonal adaptation. Ayurveda recognizes six seasons affecting doshas differently.
Six Seasons
- Shishira (late winter): Kapha accumulates. Nourishing warm foods
- Vasanta (spring): Kapha aggravates. Light foods. Vamana recommended
- Grishma (summer): Pitta accumulates. Sweet, cool, liquid foods
- Varsha (monsoon): Vata aggravates. Warm foods. Basti recommended
- Sharad (autumn): Pitta aggravates. Bitter, sweet foods. Virechana recommended
- Hemanta (early winter): Strong Agni. Rich, nourishing foods
