SomatoEmotional Release (SER)
Therapeutic approach developed by John E. Upledger integrating CranioSacral Therapy with processes of releasing physical and emotional traumas memorized in body tissues (energy cysts), allowing the body to complete and integrate emotional responses initially interrupted during shock or trauma.
Presentation
SomatoEmotional Release (SER) is a therapeutic approach developed by Dr John E. Upledger (1932–2012), American osteopath and founder of the Upledger Institute (Palm Beach Gardens, Florida). Upledger formulated this concept after observing that some patients in CranioSacral Therapy had spontaneous emotional releases — crying, trembling, expressions of anger or fear — associated with resolution of somatic tensions.
SER rests on the hypothesis of the energy cyst: during intense physical or emotional trauma, the body encapsulates unresolved residual tensions in a specific tissue area (energy cyst). These cysts can persist indefinitely and generate chronic pain, motor restrictions and emotional disturbances.
