Zhan Zhuang (站桩, 'standing like a pole') is the most fundamental and ancient form of Qi Gong. It involves maintaining static standing postures for extended periods (5–60 minutes). Systematized for health by Wang Xiangzhai and popularized medically by Yu Yongnian in the 1950s–1960s.

Core Principles

  • Active stillness: externally motionless, internally active.
  • Structural alignment: naturally corrects postural imbalances.
  • Release (Song): releasing superficial tension to activate deep muscles.
  • Rooting: developing ground connection and stability.

Session Overview
