Therapeutic Touch
Nursing energy healing method developed by Dolores Krieger and Dora Kunz, using intentional non-contact touch to rebalance the human energy field.
Presentation
Therapeutic Touch (TT) is an energy healing method developed in the 1970s by Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN, nursing professor at New York University, and Dora Kunz (1904–1999). It is one of the first energy therapies to be integrated into university nursing curricula and to have been the subject of numerous scientific studies. Despite its name, Therapeutic Touch is primarily practiced without physical contact.
Founders: Dolores Krieger, PhD, RN and Dora Kunz (1904–1999)
Core Principles
Therapeutic Touch follows a five-phase process:
- 1. Centering: Calm, focused meditative state
- 2. Assessment: Hands scan the energy field to detect asymmetries
- 3. Unruffling/Clearing: Hand movements to smooth and clear the energy field
- 4. Rebalancing: Intentional energy direction to deficit areas
- 5. Final assessment: Verification of restored field balance
