Magnetic Passes

Fluid hand movement techniques practiced by the magnetizer above or near the body to regulate vital energy flow and dissolve blockages.

Magnetic Passes

Presentation

Magnetic passes constitute the fundamental technique of healing magnetism. They consist of fluid, slow hand movements by the magnetizer, performed at varying distances from the patient's body (from a few millimeters to about thirty centimeters). These passes allow the displacement, redistribution, charging or discharging of the patient's vital energy as needed.

The tradition of magnetic passes dates back to antiquity, but their modern codification is attributed to the Marquis de Puységur (1751–1825), a disciple of Mesmer, who systematized the different types of passes and their therapeutic applications.

Historical reference: Marquis de Puységur (1751–1825)

Core Principles

The main categories of passes are:

  • Descending longitudinal passes (sedative): Top to bottom, they soothe, discharge excess energy and promote relaxation
  • Ascending longitudinal passes (stimulating): Bottom to top, they tonify, recharge and stimulate deficit areas
  • Transverse passes (dispersing): Lateral movements to dissolve congestions and localized blockages
  • Rotary passes (harmonizing): Circular movements to balance and harmonize an area's energy
  • Full-body passes: Ample passes covering the entire body for general rebalancing

Technical Details

Distance from body
0 to 30 cm depending on pass type
Speed
Slow and regular (5 to 15 cm/second)
Application duration
5 to 30 minutes depending on area and objective
Dominant hand
Emitting (projects energy) — Receptive hand (absorbs)
Breathing
The magnetizer synchronizes passes with breathing

Main Indications

  • Localized pain (muscular, articular, neuralgic)
  • Energy congestions (heaviness, blockage sensation)
  • Chronic inflammation
  • Insomnia and nervous hyperactivity
  • Fatigue and devitalization
  • Circulatory disorders
  • Pre- and post-surgical preparation and recovery
  • Headaches and migraines

Session Overview

After the initial energy assessment, the magnetizer selects appropriate pass types. The patient is generally seated or lying down, clothed. The magnetizer begins with full-body passes for general cleansing, then focuses on imbalance areas with specific passes. Each pass series is repeated 7 to 21 times (traditionally odd numbers). The magnetizer finishes with global harmonization passes and regularly 'shakes' their hands to discharge absorbed negative energies.

Contraindications

  • Ascending passes contraindicated in cases of high blood pressure
  • Descending passes to avoid in severe hypotension
  • Caution on areas of recent fracture or acute infection
  • Avoid passes on active malignant tumors
  • The magnetizer must discharge between each patient
