Presentation

Active Release Technique (ART) was developed and patented by P. Michael Leahy, D.C., CCSP, in the 1990s. A former military pilot, Leahy developed this approach to treat high-level sports injuries. ART is a soft tissue treatment system combining precise manual pressure with active patient movement. It has over 500 specific protocols for each anatomical region and tissue type (muscle, tendon, ligament, fascia, nerves).

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Epicondylitis and epicondylosis
  • Achilles tendinopathies
  • IT band syndrome

Contraindications

  • Acute muscle or tendon tears (acute phase < 72h)
  • Soft tissue tumors
  • Tendon calcifications
  • Recent fracture areas
  • Coagulation disorders
