Gong Bath Meditation

Overview

Gong bath is a sound therapy using large planetary gongs (60-150cm) to create total sound immersion. Gongs produce an extraordinarily rich harmonic spectrum inducing altered states of consciousness. Rooted in 4,000+ years of Asian tradition, popularized in the West by Don Conreaux and through Kundalini Yoga. Planetary gongs (Paiste, Meinl) are tuned to planetary frequencies calculated by Hans Cousto, creating natural binaural beats.

Core Principles

  • Total sound immersion: overwhelming harmonic richness forces mental surrender
  • Complete harmonic spectrum: dozens of simultaneous harmonics
  • Pressure waves: vibrations felt physically throughout the body
  • Planetary frequencies: each gong tuned to a specific planet
  • Gong puja: progressive intensity technique

Main Indications

  • Deep stress and accumulated tension
  • Chronic insomnia (delta wave promotion)
  • Emotional blockages (spontaneous release)
  • Chronic pain (low-frequency analgesic effect)
  • Burnout and nervous exhaustion
  • Meditation difficulty (forced meditative state)

Session Structure

60-90 minutes: lying down installation, gentle opening with bowls, progressive gong introduction, full sound bath (30-45 min), gradual descent and silence, integration.

Variations

Gong puja (10-30+ gongs, large groups), individual therapeutic gong, gongs + bowls + voice combinations, outdoor gong baths in nature.

Contraindications

  • Epilepsy
  • Severe tinnitus
  • Hyperacusis
  • First trimester pregnancy
  • Cochlear implants
  • Active psychosis or dissociative state
