Cross-Training
Training method combining several sports disciplines and exercise modalities within the same program to develop complete physical conditioning and prevent monotony.
Presentation
Cross-training integrates multiple sport disciplines and exercise modalities in a coherent program. Popularized by CrossFit (founded by Greg Glassman in 2000), the concept is broader, encompassing any practice combining varied activities for versatile physical conditioning.
Training Formats
- Circuit training: 8-12 work stations with preset work/rest times
- WOD: daily varying workout combining weightlifting, gymnastics and cardio
- AMRAP: maximum rounds in given time
- EMOM: exercise(s) every minute with remaining time as rest
- Tabata: 8 cycles of 20s work / 10s rest
Precautions
High-intensity cross-training carries higher injury risk if technical movements are not mastered. Certified coach supervision is essential. Progression must be gradual, prioritizing technique before intensity.
