Therapeutic HIIT adapts high-intensity interval training protocols for people with risk factors or chronic conditions. It uses adapted intensities under medical supervision to achieve superior health benefits compared to moderate continuous exercise in reduced training time.

Validated Protocols

  • Norwegian 4x4: 4 intervals of 4 min at 85-95% HRmax, separated by 3 min active recovery. Most studied in cardiac rehab.
  • 10-20-30: 30s slow, 20s moderate, 10s sprint, repeated 5 times. Adapted for beginners.
  • Short HIIT: 6-10 intervals of 60s at 80-90% HRmax with 60-90s recovery.
